About the Danish NGO Education Network
The Danish NGO Education Network has 32 members, all Danish NGOs or other organisations that work with education in developing countries. The Network was formed in 2000 in order to strengthen Danish NGO aid to education, and since 2004 our network activities have been funded by DANIDA. The Network is open to new members!

The aims of the Network are:
- to strengthen the professional capacity of member organisations in relation to their work with education in the South
- to gather and disseminate professional experience and facilitate coordination of activities
- to contribute to political debate about aid for education and development

Activities and themes
Public meetings, workshops and conferences:
The Network organises a range of events on the theme of education development, from workshops about relevant educational issues to international conferences featuring researchers and practitioners from Denmark and abroad. Within the field of education development, the Network focuses on, among other things, quality of teaching, use of student-centred teaching methods in the South, teachers’ roles, mother tongue and bilingual teaching, and youth education and employment. We also work with different approaches to development aid and learning, e.g.: the use of best practice in relation to education, monitoring and evaluation, Action Learning, and advocacy for education in the South. Through open debate events, we focus on the scale of Denmark’s contribution to education aid, the inclusion of civil society in the South and the progress of international aid in relation to Education for All and the Fast Track Initiative.

Theme groups:
The theme groups constitute a forum for sparring and for the sharing of experiences among the different member organisations, and are responsible for organising various activities within the Network. The theme groups meet about once a month and are open to all members of the Network, volunteers and employees alike. The groups have worked with the following themes: learning and development, adult and youth education, monitoring and evaluation, and youth and information activities.

Newsletter, resource database, studies and publications:
The monthly newsletter brings education-related news from Denmark and abroad. The resource database contains reports, articles and a long list of links which can aid the search for relevant information on education and development from all over the world. The Network regularly publishes papers, reports and studies with a focus on education and development, and the theme groups produce ‘tool kit papers’ based on the experiences of the member organisations.

Structure and Cooperation
The Network has a steering committee which is elected at the annual general meeting of the Network. The Network coordinator is in charge of daily operations from the office, based at the host organisation, Ibis (Read more about the structure of the Network at: www.uddannelsesnetvaerket.dk). We collaborate with other Danish NGO networks, DANIDA, researchers and consultants, and we are a member of the Global Campaign for Education and UNESCO’s Collective Consultation of NGOs on EFA.

How to become an active member of the Network
The Education Network is open to all Danish organisations and institutions with a professional interest in development-related education activities in the South. The Network provides an obvious opportunity for both large and small organisations to learn about new issues of relevance to their work and to participate in the sharing of experiences and discussions with others who work in the same field. New members are admitted through written application to the steering committee. Both membership and most of the activities are free, whether you are an employee, a volunteer or an ordinary member of one of the member organisations. The Network can also be used by individuals, who can participate in a range of meetings, conferences and workshops that are open to all who may have an interest in the subject.
